The Science of Balance in Relation to Weight
Factored into your decision of whether you should go for a heavy or light racquet should also be the balance in relation to the weight of the racquet. You can opt for a head heavy (HH) or head light (HL) or evenly balanced racquet. A head heavy racquet feels heavy toward the head of the racquet and a head light racquet feels heavy toward the grip. A head light racquet will be easier to maneuver, especially at the net and a head heavy racquet will give you more power for your baseline shots.
Putting it all together
Factoring in both the balance and weight together you have what is called the swingweight. Now, a racquet with a higher swingweight will accelerate less and rotate less during your swing, which means less maneuverability compared to a racquet with a lower swingweight. However, you will get more power and force behind a ball with a racquet with a higher swingweight. So if you have the technique and muscle to generate adequate power on your own, you may want to opt for a racquet with a lower swingweight so as to not sacrifice the maneuverability of the racquet.
