Ana Ivanovic Racquet
Ana Ivanovic has reached the top of women’s tennis and was crowned world number one in 2008. In that year she won the French Open. She was also runner-up at the Australian Open in 2008 and in both 2010 and 2011, Ivanovic won the WTA Tournament of Champions, defeating the best players on the planet along the way. Since 2008, when Ivanovic was at the top of her game, she started to use Yonex tennis racquets. Many people began asking about the Ana Ivanovic racquet, as fans wanted to adopt the same equipment for their own play and having seen her enjoy a great year in 2008 It’s easy to see why people were so keen to get their hands on Ivanovic’s racquet.
At the time of writing, Ivanovic is using the Yonex Ezone Ai 98, now known as the Ana Ivanovic racquet. It soon became clear as to why she has chosen to use this great piece of tennis equipment. Ivanovic is an aggressive player (check out some of these awesome points), who likes to play from the baseline and possesses a fantastic topspin forehand, the shot which propelled her to the pinnacle of women’s tennis. Such an aggressive shot requires a racquet which provides not only control but also comfort and the Yonex Ezone Ai 98 offers both.
With a head size of 98 square inches, Ivanovic’s racquet is at the top end of the smaller head size for professional players. This means the player must produce most of the power themselves but with that comes additional control of the racquet and therefore the ball. With Ivanovic’s aggressive style of play, she is already producing more than enough power of her own, that the racquet need not provide any assistance. However, by playing shots with a lot of topspin, control is a very important factor and the head size of 98 square inches gives Ivanovic all the control she requires to play the style of shot she enjoys.
In terms of weight, the heavier the racquet, the more power and better control it provides. Therefore, it should come as no surprise to see Ana Ivanovic’s racquet weighing in at 326 grams. Heavy racquets are classed as being anything from 312 grams upwards and Ivanovic’s racquet comfortably falls into this range, at almost 11.5 ounces. Again, this weight is tailored perfectly to Ivanovic’s game and allows her to play with plenty of power, whilst maintain good control for those attacking forehand topspin shots from the baseline.
Finally, string pattern also plays an important part in Ivanovic’s racquet. The version of Yonex Ezone Ai 98 she currently uses, has a string pattern of 16/19 and this helps to generate spin on the ball more easily, than an 18/20 for example. A 16/19 string pattern is more open than an 18/20 and this allows the strings to bit into the tennis ball more easily and generate more spin. This is perfect for Ivanovic’s style of play.
If you are a player who enjoys playing strong, topspin forehands from the baseline, Ana Ivanovic’s racquet may be the ideal tennis racquet for you.
