YONEX Tennis Racquet

For a company that started off by making wooden corks for sake bottles, YONEX sure has made a name for itself as one of the top tennis brands in the world. YONEX specializes in golf clubs, snowboards, badminton racquets, and, of course, tennis racquets and shoes. What really makes the YONEX tennis racquet unique is the square frame shape, called isometric. The isometric design enlarges the sweet spot and gives the player a 7% more effective hitting area, which can make a winning difference on the court.

YONEX History

YONEX was founded in 1946 by Minoru Yoneyama. Originally a wood manufacturing company, Yonex, then the Yoneyama Company, didn’t enter into the sports equipment industry until 1961, when they introduced the Yoneyama badminton racquet. In 1969, Yonex diversified into the tennis racquet industry and quickly became a regular sight on tennis courts around the world. In 1974 the Yoneyama Company officially changed their name to YONEX. In 1980, YONEX signed Billy Jean King and Martina Navratilova to sponsorship deals and introduced the R-1 racquet as the world’s first square or ‘isometric’ tennis racquet. Since then YONEX has continued to sign top pros and expand its reputation as one of the top racquets on tour.
