Angelique Kerber’s Family and Personal Life

Angelique Kerber was born in Bremen, Germany on January 18th, 1988 to a Slawomir and Beata Kerber. Her father is Polish and mother is German giving her duel citizenship, however she has always considered herself German. She comes from a tennis family as her grandfather started a tennis academy called “Angie” in Puszczykowo, Poland. Her idol growing up was Steffi Graf.

Angelique Kerber’s Tennis Career

Angelique Kerber first started playing tennis at the age of 3 and hasn’t looked back since. She turned pro in 2003 at the young age of 15 and struggled on tour for the first part of her career. She didn’t get out of the first round of a grand slam event for five years, until finally she broke through at the 2008 Australian Open. Even after the mini victory in 2008, she still struggled gaining traction at the top. It wasn’t until 2011 when she finally broke through, making it to the semifinals of the US Open as an unseeded player, skyrocketing her ranking from 92nd to 34th in the world. Since then, she has been a woman on a mission. She took home her first WTA title and achieved a top 5 ranking in 2012, took home 4 WTA titles in 2015, and a grand slam title and Olympic medal in 2016. Kerber has shown what perseverance and determination can bring you if you put in the effort.
